Akwesasne Mohawk Police and Saint Regis Mohawk Tribal Police team up for “Operation Impact”

The Akwesasne Mohawk Police Service (AMS) and the Saint Regis Mohawk Tribal Police Department (SRMTPD) have stated in a recent press release, they will be working together in “Operation Impact” during the holiday weekend.

Operation Impact is a national traffic safety and enforcement initiative that raises awareness on the issues of roadway public safety.

This initiative is designed to save lives and reduce injuries on our roadways. Educating the public in safe driving practices is a priority for law enforcement. The focus of “Operation Impact” is on behaviors that put drivers, passengers and other road users most at risk.

From October 5-8, 2018 The AMPS and the SRMTPD will be paying particular attention what are known to the police as-the three main causes of vehicle collisions: Distracted Driving, Impaired Driving, and Aggressive Driving.

Police will also be on the lookout for drivers not wearing seatbelts while operating a motor vehicle.

Both police agencies will be conducting a number of seat belt checks and RIDE (Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere) Programs throughout the community during this holiday weekend.

The AMPS and the SRMTPD encourages the community to report impaired driving and aggressive driving by calling Police at 613-575-2000 or 518-358-9200.
