Burn Ban issued to keep community safe!

A burn ban remains in effect during the community’s ‘State of Emergency’. The Emergency Operations Center(EOC) issued a reminder this week that the ban still stands and is due to the lack of precipitation, which has contributed to extremely dry conditions and the possibility of uncontrolled fires.

Small fires in contained fire pits, such as the metal or stone fire pits you can purchase at a store, are acceptable at this time.

The EOC is asking community members to please refrain from starting large, open fires; fires in a burning barrel; or bonfires that contain leaves, grass, or brush. Open fires could possibly start a wildfire, which would destroy personal property and could require an emergency response from the Hogansburg Akwesasne Volunteer Fire Department(HAVFD).

The EOC asks that you please be respectful of this burn ban and recognize that it is being done to keep the community safe.
