Tribe Announces Winter Heating Assistance

AKWESASNE — The Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe’s Compliance Department is currently accepting applications for winter heating assistance at their offices located a 28 Okwarine Road. Applications are being taken from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday to Friday until December 20th.

Applicants will need:

  • Tribal membership card
  • Heating Vendor/Supplier receipt
  • Electrical account information
  • Two proofs of your residency
  • Should you rent; (a renters agreement must be completed)

Applications will also taken on Saturdays during the month of Tsiothóhrha/December at the Office of the Aging’s Sun Room (Seniors Building) on Tsiothóhrha/December 7th, 14th, and 21st between the hours of 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

For those unable to travel, home visits can be scheduled by contacting the Compliance Department at (518) 358-2272.

Fuel delivery will begin on Tsiothorhrkó:wa/January 2, 2020 however; for those in need of heating assistance before that date, please complete a LIHEAP application at the SRMT Food Distribution Office located at 412 State Route 37. For information about LIHEAP, please call (518) 358-2272.

Should you receive assistance from SNAP, please contact your respective County representative for a HEAP application.

With the winter season arriving early this year, we encourage everyone to participate in all available heating assistance programs that you may be eligible to receive.
