SRMT Offers Financial Incentive to Increase Vaccination Numbers

AKWESASNE- In a direct attempt to grow the numbers of Akwesasronon who are vaccinated for Covid-19, the Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe is offering a financial incentive to eligible community members.

Beginning on September 1, 2021, tribal members who arrive for a vaccination will receive a $100 gift certificate to the Akwesasne Mohawk Casino. Additionally, when the tribal member returns for their second dose, a second gift certificate will be awarded. The incentive is being provided for new vaccinations only, and for individuals 12 years of age and up.

“The gift certificates can be redeemed for cash” stated Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe Director of Communications Brendan White.

Additional monetary prizes will be awarded via drawings when the Tribe’s vaccination rate reaches 50% and 60%.

To date, Akwesasne has failed to establish 50% of the population with vaccinations, with only 46.9% of eligible individuals participating in a process that would protect themselves, their families, and the overall community. This average falls below those for surrounding Franklin and St. Lawrence Counties, as well as the national average, according to the CDC.

The former IGA building in Akwesasne has served as a walk-in vaccine clinic for Akwesasronon since vaccinations became available. Hours of operation are Wednesdays from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

To receive a COVID-19 vaccination directly at Saint Regis Mohawk Health Services, individuals must schedule an appointment in advance by calling (518) 358-3141.
