Positive Cases Force ABGC to close until August 11th

The Akwesasne Boys and Girls Club(ABGC) closed its doors on August 4th, 2021 for deep cleaning and sanitizing. The temporary closing is the result of notification from health officials of three positive COVID-19 cases at the Rooseveltown location.

In response to the closing, ABGC Executive Director Jessica Jock stated, “safety is the number one priority of the Akwesasne Boys & Girls Clubs and we are doing everything possible to keep children and our staff protected from the COVID-19 virus.”

Regarding the notification of positive COVID-19 cases at the clubhouse, Jock says, “we reached out to healthcare professionals for guidance and have notified parents of measures being taken at the main clubhouse to ensure a safe reopening.”

This temporary closing does not affect Clubhouses located in Kawehno:ke, Kana:takon, or TsiSnaihne. The ABGC in Rooseveltown will provide updates on the August 11th reopening as they become available.

This recent shutdown is a reminder that the pandemic, now fortified by COVID-19 variants, is still something the community should handle with extreme caution.

Community members are urged to call Saint Regis Mohawk Health Services at (518) 358-3141 with any questions regarding symptoms, quarantining, testing and vaccinations.
